In order to achieve a good comparability of compounds with different compositions, the molar thermal capacities were also related to the number of atoms. So the following table actually contains "atomic heat", which for atomic reasons have been referred to here as atomic thermal capacities. In order to make the number characteristic clear, the values were again given as multiples of the gas constants.
